Multiple Shootings in Athens Leave Five Injured

(MENAFN) Five individuals were wounded in two separate shooting incidents in central Athens on Tuesday, prompting authorities to launch an extensive search for an elderly suspect, according to reports.

The first shooting took place inside a social security office run by EFKA. Reports indicate that an 89-year-old man entered the building, made his way to the fourth floor, and opened fire using a shotgun. One employee, who was part of a government employment program, was injured in the leg. The injuries were described as minor, and the victim was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Shortly after the initial incident, the suspect is believed to have taken a taxi to the Athens Court of Appeal in the Loukareos area. Upon reaching the fourth floor there, he allegedly carried out another shooting, leaving four more people injured. Authorities said all injuries from the second incident were also minor.

Police reported that the suspect abandoned the weapon at the second location before fleeing the scene. Security forces have since launched a large-scale operation to track him down.
